Hoping some one can shed some light on this...

i have been to one dealership and got quotes from 4 others... via phone calls.

Dealer 1) 45,000 Major Service that includes changing the SST Fluid = $960

(dealer recently changed my oil even know i supplied my own it was $110 i thought was a bit steep) was advised to do my 45,000 soon. That's when he dropped in the $960 price tag for the service

Dealer 2) Normal kinda service, they top up break fluid coolant check breaks = $350 Said the SST does not need to be changed to 108,000 service

Dealer 3) $600 for the service, asked if that included the SST Fluid change, That was a NO, extra $400 for the SST Change... they said its just been revised due @ 90,000

Dealer 4) $590 for the service inc oils for engine diff's and coolant. did not know about when or if it included the SST fluid.

Dealer 5) $640 for the service & SST flush and change.

From my knowledge (not that great) its prob a good thing to change the SST fluid as been read on the forums. The car is not driven really hard few hill's drives on the weekend would be the most i put my foot down & shift a lot. but the previous owner had it tuned and on a dyno ect... so i would like to flush it so its a fresh start witch i think people will agree.

Just wanted some advice on what to do?
When really does the fluid need to be change?
WHAT THE HELL are there dealers doing... seems like they just make up and charge what ever they like.

Ofey is kindly putting a list of oils / fluids i would need and hope to get them off troy a bit cheaper then at the dealer.

i have a mate with a workshop that might be able to help me change the SST fluid would this be ok with warranty ect...

Bit of a long story.

Changing SST fluid is one thing, flushing and changing is another. The fluid is super expensive and flushing essentially requires twice the volume. Dealer 5 gets my money!

I was thinking off maybe just getting the service done then trying the SST change myself.

i done the 45k and sst my self. hard part about the sst is knowing how much to put in... there is no services list on how much to put in so you have to catch then put the same back in. the whole services took me and another mechanic 5 hours after work on a sat. you will need to bleed the center diff as well there is a bleeder nipel on the transfer and fill the bottle in the boot.... it will gravity bleed.

I spoke to Brett from MRT and he said they're aware of the SST oil change and are actually in the progress of making a video regarding it. It'll be up on youtube within a week.

I tried to get a dollar figure from Brett on how much it'd cost to change the SST oil but he replied with the following:

[Brett] they would be best to watch the video and THEN decide as the costs vary HEAPS depending on:
· std oil or high perf oil

· oem filter or re usable filter

· trans cover for extra capacity or not

· trans cooler or not.....

You can tell them that the Mitsubishi oil is hard to get as is the OEM filter and very few workshops have the equipment (or knowledge) to do it correctly

we now carry in stock:
after market filter kits
clutch kits
trans pans
optional dip stick (the SST trans does not have one!)
go to the mrt site and click performance/transmission

I guess we'll just have to wait for this video lol.

So what happened to there Diamond Advantage capped price servicing then ??

From Mitsubishi web site

Under the Program, eligible vehicles are entitled to receive up to the first four Regular Services (eight Regular Services for Ralliart and Lancer Evolution vehicles) by distance or time (whichever occurs first) for no more than the applicable Vehicle Service Cap per service. The final eligible service will be either the 48 month or 60,000km service (whichever occurs first).

The Program covers all items specified under the Regular Service Tables for each vehicle type detailed in the Service and Warranty Customer Information booklet, including parts, labour, oils and fluids, workshop supplies and any applicable environmental or waste oil disposal charges.

RALLIART

Service Interval* Capped Price
7,500km or 6 months $130
15,000km or 12 months $260
22,500km or 18 months $130
30,000km or 24 months $260
37,500km or 30 months $130
45,000km or 36 months $260
52,500km or 42 months $130
60,000km or 48 months $260

SO how do the they get away with >$600 then ??

I think you will find that the SST technically does not get changed at 45,000 but if you do any sort of heavy driving it should be replaced.

Therefore it doesn't fall under the capped price.

I missed out on the caped pricing as well... 620 doesn't sound to bad lot better then 960.

It looks like Dealer 5 would be the place to go.

I don't know how they're doing it for that price though considering the oil alone is nearly $600 and the filter is about $200.

With those prices dealer 1 is on the money but hey, if dealer 5 is willing to loose $'s then why not.

The prices I gave are the true prices Bernard.
A mate of mine changed the SST fluid in his X last month. Cost him just shy of $1k inc labour.
