Is it necessary to change oil and filter in the 1500km check up/servicing?

I heard that part of the process of running in a new engine is bedding the bearings and rings which will leave little bits of metal in the oil.

It is not compulsory I did not change the oil in mine until 7500 km's when I went to a semi synthetic then at 15000km I went to a full synthetic.

I was under the same impression too, i was suprised after the service when i found out they did nothing =s

Depends on how bad your QC was on leaving the factory and how much you've thrashed your car. At 1500, it's unlikely any of these bits will f**k your engine over.

I actually buy the oil myself, my dealer was going to use 15w-40 mineral (old dinosaurs) . I use Pentrite 5w-50 due to me regularly driving in climates from -10 up to 40 + degrees.

majority of modern engines are already bed in from the factory. the 1500km service is really just a final check for leaks and abnormal operation and generally the dealers will also get paid by the mother company to perform them.

I'm sorry I didn't specify an oil change on the complimentary service, mainly because the oil had been in the engine since construction and first being fired up. which resulted in the oil being unchanged for getting on to 2years. Mitsubishi don't specify it possibly to save cost and dealer doesn't suggest it as it would point to a short fall by the maker.

Fortunately I had only covered slightly more than 3,000km by my 1st regular service. Here again there appears to be conflict even between different senior members of the service division of my dealer as to whether the first service should be carried out 12 months from compliance date, or registration date ie; Warranty date. I have taken it from registration date and am worried even though service division said there is no problem but setting the next service date for 8 months later!!! Which I don't mind last service 3 months prior to warranty expiry.

Only reference to a date, from when anything has to be done in the service manual, is for the complimentary service which states 2 months from warranty date ie: registration date. Ha Ha, couldn't be, otherwise it would then in many if not most cases be due before being sold.

AS all other 7 new cars I have purchased in my lifetime have been from registration date I can't see how this can be otherwise in compliance with the above.
