Hi guys.

Im currently in the process of rebuilding my engine and CVT and thought id draw on your hopefully endless wisdom.
My first question is has anyone else done this on a 4b11, and where did they get their gasket kit/head bolts. Im trying to track down a local set but getting one for a reasonable price is hard. So far the only place that even has a listing for the kit is supercheap, which is 450 odd dollars without seals. Amayama are also a bit pricey but understandable being genuine. Is there anywhere else thats a decent stockist?
Also, it is almost impossible to find a place that will even touch CVTs let alone rebuild them (or at least just change the bearings and o-rings) so i thought id do it myself. I doubt it but has anyone else here done this? No luck on listing for the bearings, even the local mitsu man said he couldnt find one (not sure if that was just human error though he did sound uninterested to help me as it required effort). Any ideas? Not really wanting to replace the entire box when it just needs a few maintenance parts.
Ive gotten the workshop manual off of here as well so that will answer all of my basic rebuild questions.
If there is anything else i need ro know or tips/tricks please share your wisdom

I've been looking around online and as the 4B11 is still a relatively new motor in the scheme of things & there may not be a lot of aftermarket gaskets sets made in Australia around at the moment although what supercheap is quoting you would more than likely be about right for pricing, you may have to look overseas for them if you can't get them here.

Places like Supercheap, Repco, Auto one etc all source there gaskets kits from the same manufacture which is normally ACL, I know when I worked for Repco Engine reconditioning if we got a motor in that was a newer one we had to go genuine as there wasn't an aftermarket one available at the time.

I've found a listing for ACL bearings but they are for the 4B11T (link below) and I'm not sure if they're the same as the NA one or not someone else maybe able to let you know if they will fit or not

RPW sell head stud kits again these were the first ones I found and there could be cheaper/better ones out there but these are ARP which are a good brand

cheers for the info, ive looked around everywhere for the bolts but so far havent found a listing. Plenty of ARP turbo bolts but unsure if they fit N/A and suppliers arent sure either. Might have to ring around some local engine rebuilders and see where they get their stock from etc.
I found a "DNJ" branded cylinder head kit for 190 landed from the US, might have to go with that it seems.
Im unsure on the bearings as well, i might have to also see if the local engine builder can do anything for me there, as amayama say my VIN doesnt work with their jap decoders, and the local mitsi guys arent terribly helpful when it comes to part numbers for obscure things.
My main problem will be the CVT though. I get the usual knee jerk response of 'we dont touch those' when i ring up for an enquiry, and im not sure how id go with getting the bearings - might have to take them all out and take em down somewhere and hope a typical o-ring set has the ones i need. Then theres the CVT oil...my mrs camry is soo much easier everything is literally just off the shelf and dirt cheap!
Ill definitely post up the results though when i get them so others dont have this headache in the future hopefully if they go down this route

Is it worth grabbing the 'box out of a late-model wreck?

You may be better of getting a tranny from the wreckers.
There are some on ebay going for around 600-900.
Rip and replace would be much cheaper than getting someone who will pull apart the CVT that's if they even agree to take on the work.

Im going to do it myself though for that reason alone - no one else will touch it. I already have it apart i just have to replace the bearings, few orings, thins broken park lock sensor rod (thats what i think it is anyway) and a few seals and we are done. At least then i will have a reco'd box with the correct number to vin over spending more money on something im unsure of the condition from the wreckers etc. Ill just take the bearings down to a specialist im sure theyll be able to give me the correct replacement surely. I figure itll only set me back a few hundred if that.
