penrite ftw. the first number on an oil bottle is the most important as its how thick the oil is at start up the second number is better to be higher as its the rating at which the oil will sheer.

so a 0w-30 will sheer earlier than a 0w-40. 0w-40 being better obviously.

If you change your oils regularly, 0w-30 is adequate.... fully synthetic only makes it a better heat tolerant choice...

Surely everyone's daily fare is not the Bathurst 12-hour!

Guys,
We have discussed oils at length in another thread in which we covered a range of technical issues as well as brand preferences.
A search for that thread should answer most Q.

As I mentioned for consideration previously, given Aust summer and winter temp ranges a 10W-30 or 15W-40 would be far more appropriate than an extreme 0W or 5W oil.
These are for temps down in the -20 to -40C and below range.

I use a 15W-40, semi syn or I should say my dealer does in the NA cars.
Even in my 2 Mitsu turbos I had for 23yrs these grades worked perfectly in our climate and with modern twin cam,multi valve engines.

i use 0w-30 because that what they put in the car when they service it.
