Transmission cooler
just a quick question, my transmission (CVT) whines after 3k rpm. What makes it cause that? How to fix it? CVT fluid change, installing a transmission cooler (Since 2011 lancer SX doesnt come with 1) or all of the above?
I found 1 universal transmission cooler from Mishimoto.
https://www.mishimoto.com.au/heavy-duty ... c-fan.html
Also, is it beneficial to install an universal oil cooler and upgrade the radiator while i'm at it? I live in Southeast side of Melbourne (thought I might add this to give you guys an idea about the weather and outdoor temps which i'm dealing with). If yes then can I fit in an Evo X or a Ralliart radiator?
Thanks in advance!
Re: Transmission cooler
Don't touch the radiator or the radiator cap
Way to many wannabe rev heads do this to EFI cars and wonder why the performance goes down the drain and it sucks fuel like no tomorrow
When you shove a bigger radiator and cap on (all the top of the line wannabe go at least 10 degree cooler with the radiator cap) the engine never gets to operation temp.
From memory it's about 85 degree and should hover to around 100 degree .
When you go nuts and screw with it , the ECU does its best to keep the engine nto the preset temp thats hard coded into the ECU.
It will do this by running the fuel mix rich.
And cos it never gets to the correct operation temp, it will always run rich.
This then sucks fuel , degraded performance and build up of crapola in side the head.
By far one of the dumbest things you can do to any EFI Motor.

Re: Transmission cooler
The radiator that is in the car is quite sufficient. There is an oil/coolant heat exchanger on the transmission.
The whine you speak of are you sure it's in the transmission? It's hard to diagnose noises over a keyboard it may be a Drive belt or a pulley or tyre noise or a wheel bearing.Maybe a 2nd opinion from a professional would help.

Re: Transmission cooler
I'm pretty sure it's from the tranny because it doesn't happen when I drive the car for the first time in the morning, it happens when the car is fully warmed up and happens only after 3-4k rpms. And when is a bigger radiator suitable? And is it a good idea to install a transmission cooler anyway? Because the 4B12 have it regardless.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Transmission cooler
Ok. If you are sure it's the transmission then get it inspected I would suggest removing the pan and having a look for anything nasty. There will be superfine metal stuck to the magnet which is normal.Replace the suction strainer and see how you go.
As I said before the standard radiator and trans heat exchanger are up to the job especially in the tropical heat of Melbourne.

Re: Transmission cooler
No need for bigger radiator
I know guys who race / rally the NA with stock radiator and zero issue
The idea of Bigger radiator is yet another internet perpetual BS story to make you think you're going to work wonders with the ECU/ motor
If your really serious about getting decent power out of the NA, start off with a tactrix open port and an ECU tune

Re: Transmission cooler
Thanks for the replies guys! Speaking of tuning, I tried to talk to Merlin via this forum and via mail but he didnt reply me. Is he even into tuning anymore because I saw a few other posts on other forums saying that he isn't doing this anymore.

I spoke with Merlin not all that long ago
He absolutely is still doing tuning
