Anyone knows if you buy the 4 sets of tyres and then put them in your garage till you need them, away from UV light.
Is this enough or other precautions should be observed?
WHy? Because I am sick and tired to be robbed and planning to buy the tyres from USA and ship them in.
The Original Yokohama 215/45/R18 89W seems to be 350 each here and I can get all for 540 including the US Dollars 180 shipping !!!!!
Yes, I have seen in this web site some sellers and rang them up who are saying they do it and they say we do not have them.
I love customer service in thic country.............in Germany would not last 1 microsecond a business run like that!
Sorry, I am cranky

Why you would buy the original I do not understand. They don't last very long, are very noisy, very prone to tram-lining and well.. the list goes on.
If you do a bit of shopping you can easily get a 215/45 R18 for a GOOD price here. These are good tyres as well from my research - the Kumho Ecsta Spt (KU31), Toyo Proxes 4....

Translation....
Sounds like the OP is pissed because buying a set of 4 tyres locally in Austrlaia costs 4 x $350, as opposed to buying them from the US.
Local = 4 x $350 =AUD$1400
US = $540 for the set plus $180 shipping = $720
so if he buys a set and stores them in the garage, away from light be sufficient until they are needed.
....
now, discuss.

Bruno from QLD................grazie, thanks !
VRX_Pete........thanks ! You understood quite well. The 180 were included so is much less than 720.
Dire, what really got me yesterday is that there is a commercial company in this forum from NSW advertising and then saying they do not have any plus would not comment on pricing. So if the rest of the info here is similar I rather do biz somewhere else. Sorry, I tend to think like Germans thought they are not perfect.............
Thanks to all. I got much more with your inputs and do appreciate very much the exchange.
Now my north italian blood will cool down a bit.
Cheers to all of you and many thanks again !

Ok..... so aside from the rant on Germany being better than Australia in customer service and stuff (which is a known fact already)...
Tyres regardless of where they are stored should be used within a time. The compounds in it change and harden as time goes by, and I don't think you have an environment to keep it in that has no temperature variation and no moisture so the compound does not change.
So my advice is not to store tyres for too long. A year is normally the yardstick used.
Hope that helps.

There is nothing particularly wrong with purchasing tyres from overseas providing they are reputable.
Places such as TyreRack in the US are very reputable.
The thing to be careful of is that tyres in the US while are the same name and tread pattern are actually a different compound designed for US conditions.

Be careful when importing tyres from OS, as you will need to meet Australian Design Rules ( see: http://www.comlaw.gov.au/Series/F2006L02742 )
You will also need to meet Australian Quarantine requirements ( see: http://www.aqis.gov.au/icon32/asp/ex_Qu ... ype=Search ) - click on relevant link. ( if link doesnt work, then Google AQIS - ICON database )
It may be cheaper to import, but you will be stung for AQIS ( Quarantine ) fees here, and if they do not meet requirements, tyres will need to be sent back, or destroyed ( again - at your cost )
