Servicing with Mitsubishi
About 3 weeks ago I booked my car in for its 1 year service, got a confirmation call and had it all sorted. Walked into the service derpartment today, handed over my keys - and was then told it would cost me $355. I couldn't believe it, after seeing the commercials stating it would cost $195.
As my car was delivered September 2009, it doesn't fall into the time period for the capped price service.
Well...I left, I didn't get the service done.
Im a student, and don't earn much, and a $150 hike in price doesn't help.
My dad called the dealership, as well as Mitsubishi to no real avail. The dealership claiming I was quoted the price when I received a confirmation call, yet I didn't. As well as this, their advertisement on t.v. doesn't clearly state that the car has to be within a time period to be eligible. I checked their website PDF file on the issue, it doesn't state a time period either.
I want your views on this issue, and ask, did Mitsubishi make any effort to talk to you about service costs when you purchased the car?
As of now, my dad and I aren't going to take our Lancer's to Mitsubishi for our services. Although we are going to lose the road side assistance, I'm sure we can pay for this service somewhere else for a reasonable price.

I guess they could make it a bit more obvious, but I think this page mentions the eligibility date:
http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com.au/own ... -servicing
There's a large number of members who bought the Lancer from 07 onwards, so chances are they would have had servicing at non-dealer locations.
I'm interested in non-dealer alternatives myself, as I'll need the 7500km oil/oil filter change. Sure I can do it myself, but I'd rather a qualified mechanic do it.

See this, is what I wanted. But if you look at this, and this is from the dealership I went too, it doesnt clearly state it

Oh lol. That's my dealer as well.
The eligibility date is on that PDF flyer:
http://www.ahgnsw.com.au/userfiles/Capp ... 0flyer.pdf
Again they could be more obvious, but they do have it mentioned.

Dannyboi, 7500km service? Only turbo models need a 7500km oil change. NA lancers, first service is 15,000/1yr which ever is soonest.
tomtom, as for servicing at mitusbishi or not. You don't have to use Mitsu, sure you'll "lose" the 5 year roadside assist, but at the end of the day, if you save yourself enough money, buying yourself an NRMA road assist (or other company) with the money saves is enough.
Just make sure wherever you get is serviced, the log book is completed and they use oil that complies with the Mitsubishi warranty.
I'll be getting my car serviced in the next few weeks, I'll do the oil myself. Will see how much it will set me back for the first service (15,000/1yr).

Ok, so there is a small sentence stating date on that flyer - but how many people are going to get caught out by this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ru4pCn3Pn0A
I understand I'm outside the time period, I'm just annoyed I wasnt told until I was at the dealership

I'm used to changing the oil on the car every 5000km or so. 7500km just happens to be half of that yearly interval.

Wouldn't be surprised if they failed to mention it up front, but dealers aren't exactly the most trustworthy people in the world.
That $355 does seem pretty high, although I think that's how much people used to fork out.
I don't know what the service is like, but maybe check places like Ultratune?

That price sounds a bit over the top... have a look at some of the other threads...
This one i found for 15,000 service
http://clubcj.net/viewtopic.php?t=465
some people get it in the mid-250s. Can't hurt to shop around to other Mitsu dealerships. You dont have to take it to the one you bought it off...
someone in WA mentioned they got a student discount, so try that.
If you can supply your own oil and filter you might save a bit as well.
Just do a search on "service cost" and have a look around the threads...

If your dealership's mechanic is honest like mine, I know bringing in your own compatible oil and filter takes A$55 and A$20 off your bill.
Now you can get at an Autobarn/Repco/Supercheap sales:
Castrol Edge Sport 5W-30 for A$29.90
K&N Gold Oil filter for A$18
Also ensure all your fluids are topped up so they can't slap on a A$20 fluids refill fee.
All helps bring the cost down... .

Wow... my reply disappeared!
DAMNIT.
Anyway, I was in the same position as you. Called up dealerships and found out that as I had bought the car in Sept 09, and was a 2009 model, I was not eligible for the capped servicing. Checked the Mitsu website and it was all there. SIGH. Nothing was mentioned about capped servicing fro the dealer when I bought it anyway...
So I had to call around all the dealerships, cheapest one for me was $281. If I was willing to travel out further from my place I am sure I would be able to get for slightly cheaper. Most dealerships around my place were charging $350. LOL.
Still, much cheaper than my partner who spends >$1000 per year on her MAzda 3.

The guy at the dealership I was at said it had to be delivered in Dec 2009-now. So that might rule you out, but I really have no idea. Atleast the person who sold you the car actually mentioned servicing.

if you can't read it here it is in text:
4 Year or 60,000km Scheduled Servicing (which ever occurs first).
New vehicle purchases only. Excluding Government and Rental Fleet purchases.
Terms and conditions apply. See your dealer for details and eligibility.
Still doesn't give a clear indication of a time period that the car has to be bought within.
