WARNING possible scam

Simple question: Who buys a car blind?

I sold my last car to a guy in Newcastle. He had only seen pics of the car.
He deposited the money into my account 2 weeks before he flew to Melbourne to pick it up.

But like most people have already said, this one looks like a definite scam.

Yes, major scam, my brother was selling his Suzuki GSX 1400 the same way and he received 3 enquiries from Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. The giveaway was identical wording in all 3 enquiries.

This is 100% a scam,
I sold my 1966 Valiant a couple months ago, and i had received an email exactly like this. I went with it but watched my steps carefully for a while. After a few more emails the tone changed, and the grammar got worse, this i assume was the end of the pre written responses and now the scam artist emailing. From here they can do a few things:
-They over pay into your paypal with a stolen credit card, they then complain to paypal and they are refunded the amount they deposited over the expected amount, lets say $500. Then in a few weeks time you will be under scrutiny for dealing with a stolen credit card.
-They get a company to take your car away, and then thanks to paypals awesome buyer protection, when they receive the car they claim it was not as described, they then receive a full refund and a free car....

It tends to be the first of the two as these scam artists are primarily from africa.

Hi there, as you all know my car is for sale on carsales.com

I got someone asking if my car is still for sale, i replied yes.
5mins later i got this email back;

"Thanks for the prompt response.. I am ready to buying it now for birthday gift for brother in-law and i am at sea at the moment as i am a marine engineer and due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it. I really want the car to be a surprise for brother in-law so i wont let him know anything about the car until it gets delivered to him, i am sure he will be more than happy with the car. I insisted on paypal because i don't have access to my bank account online as i don't have internet banking, but i can pay from my paypal account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your paypal email address and the price so i can make the payments asap for the car and pls if you don't have paypal account yet, it is very easy to set up, go to www.paypal.com.au Web site registration will take only 5 minutes just get back to me as soon as you get back to me registered and get it set up, after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with paypal so as to put the money through. I have a pick up agent that will come and pick the car up after i have made the payments...

You have to be kidding. My brother had the exact same scam happen to him when selling his Harley. Same story and everything.

"Was on a offshore oil rig and wanting to buy it for his father as his dad loves harley's" Then called back 3 days later saying "Mate im just calling about that car that i buying off you.."

My brother said "Do you even know what you buying mate?"

The conversation swiftly ended with a fair amount of cursing lol

That's crazy though i didn't realize this scam was done on such a broad scale. I wonder if people do actually catch on and go ahead with it. Then give these suckers whats coming to them when they come to pick up the car. Karma's a bitch.
