I've also been informed that Mitsubishi may choose to void your engine warranty if you use any other oil filter besides a Mitsubishi one
I'd like to hear from you about this if you have a more definitive answer but apparently that's what I've heard. I've always wanted to put a K&N oil filter in but don't dare to now.

There is no "choosing", it comes down to whether or not the failure was caused by a deficiency of the K&N (or Ryco filter) both of which are warranted anyway. If the engine failure is not directly related to the different oil filter by law they cannot deny you warranty. That is merely a cop-out to make the ill informed purchase their OEM products.

I completely agree with what you've said however, please understand my position that I have to make all buyers aware of what I know about the situation. I did say I don't dare but doesn't mean I won't?

You do realise it's a difficult game being chief buyer. Even choosing between a white and red arbitrarily in another group buy puts me into the firing line... .
