OOOOO NO

Postby Peanut » Tue Dec 08, 2009 9:23 pm

Well had a very big problem and its freaked me out fiercly, driving home tonight it started raining cats and dogs, so just drove along, then went to catch up to mate as soon as it went over 4 grand (when mivec starts) it just pinged its freaking head off, did it through 1st 2nd and 3rd gear, stopped let it idle for a bit and was fine for a little then started doing it again, then stopped so i geared down to second and the traction control service light came on, turned the car off and restarted it and it seems to be fine now, any suggestions.
My personal opinion is that the CAI got a mouthful of water and the water was just screwing sh!t up, ill scan it when i get to work tomorrow and see what it says.

You got the hydrosheild on the CAI filter?

I always thought our cars were too piss weak to suck up water..Did you drive through puddle when it pinged?

FYI Peanut, our Mivec is not staged... It's constantly variable so there is no "kick in" point as such ;)

As for the problem, plug your scanner in and see what it syas, but sounds like it could've been water

wouldn't water create large amounts of steam causing large amounts of pressure in the piston, damaging the block or piston or bearings?

So did your check engine light come on as well?

I've had water get in through mu CAI on my old mazda 3, not pretty at all! went crazy choking up & smoking fiercly out of the exhuast & CEL came on until I dried it out & disconnected the batt.

Maybe pull out the MAF sensor to see if its wet inside the pipe.

Its a worry :(

OK well everyone stop panicing lol i scanned the car at work today, it didnt leave any Hard DTC on the ecu so it wasnt bad so i guesse you can chalk this one up to water getting in the CAI and a great limp mode and protection by Mitsubishi in the ECU, i even chuck our bore scope down each pot and nothing so, i am happy as a pig in mud and so on

Did it have the bypass valve? This is the solution to CAI not sucking water. It's like using two straws to sip, one on the drink and one outside.
