Acceleration doing strange things

Postby gadzooks72 » Wed Dec 31, 2014 1:11 pm

Ok so this is whats happening

When I accelerate between 1st and 4th gears the acceleration works in stages within each gear

The revs jump by 500 revs at each stage.

If I keep the accelerator at the same rev the engine will quickly rev up by about 250 revs then back down again

I have had this looked at 3 times and the manufacturers always say that they cant find anything

Im at my wits end because it happens so obviously that I don't understand how nobody can pick it up!

Im guessing that its either the turbo, fuel pump or something in the gear box.

I have had the car serviced up to date as well.

Can anyone suggest an independent shop to look and correctly identify the problem for me?

Thanks in advance!

has your fuel relay been replaced?
There is a TSB floating around for it.

I don't know if it's me getting used to my VRX but I've found something similar.

Under fast acceleration when I change up the revs go up before I select the next gear. I'm talking about going to like 4000 RPM it will just to 5000. Now maybe I'm not coming off the accelerator enough as under slow driving when I up change at lower RPMs like 2000 it seams fine.

this is about the SST box Craig, it has no correlation to any other gearbox :)
theyre funny things, and can be cantankerous.

no offence intended.

If anyone is going to screw up gear changes it's going to be me.

No offense intended

Hi,

On the face of it it sounds like simple clutch slip. Does this happen in manual/auto - normal/sports, all or only some combinations?

Firstly which dealership are you going to, as not all dealerships are created equal. If it is not too much of a hike I can highly recommend Knox Mits for diagnosing and fixing RA/Evo issues, particularly with the SST

Secondly, What Denzza offered (I think), to plug in a Tactrix, take it for a drive and log rpm's etc to see what actually happens when you accelerate/change up

Good luck - lots of help & advice on here if you need it
- Self tuned - work in progress - tune revision #16_03
- GS 3 port controlled wooooot :)

- Black Evo X FMIC/ Evo IX BOV/ Depo HFC/ UR UICP
- Awesome self installed Alpine/JL Audio sound system
- Whiteline Rear Swaybar

Hay guys

Thanks for all of the advise and questions...its really helpful

Yes its an RA I think its a MY08

IM not sure if the fuel relay has been replaced but Im guessing it hasnt.

Yes Im in Melbourne and I have joined the FB link above...just waiting for approval.

I think its the clutch slipping but Ive been told by Alan Mance and City Mitsubishi that they found no probs with the clutch.

This doesnt matter weather Im in Man or Auto...the same thing happens.

Even when the cruise control is on from time to time the revs with jump up and then back to normal for no reason at all :(

Does anyone know when the next meet is on?...Im pretty ken to get this sorted out once and for all.

so many things it could be man, i`m surprised a mitsu dealer couldnt find a problem, did they run a diagnostic with a MUT3? or just do a roadtest?

or u could ask beeble http://BeebleTune.com theres not much he doesnt know about sst`s and he`s in melbourne.

So it is not under warranty any more? If this is the case I would contact Beeble as Sleeper suggested as no one knows sst's as well as him
