PN: I wrote this here to have a detailed log of my issue
Please do not fill this thread with guesses and suggestions unless
you have had hands on mechanical background & experience and know
yourself first hand as this isn't here for members just to make comments
on and up there thread counts.
Thanks Again for taking notice & have a read
Here's my log of events:
MY10 2.4ltr 4B12 Auto (with EGR type symptoms Fault)
Day 1: revs died whilst driving started up but only after a few tries,
had to keep revs up on the pedal then kept idle but idle speed was around 400rpm,
started and drove ok with only slight jerking off decell
checked : fuel, due for oil change so dropped oil n new filter (was
pretty black as normal)
outcome: drove much smoother but still slight jerky off decell
Day 2: Car only started after 8 or so tries again had to keep revs
up to keep running
still drove with slight jerking off decell but drove 15kms into workshop
put diagnostic tool on it no fault codes, played up quite a bit on
idle hunting btw 400-900 rpm
checked: AFM and cleaned, on Oil feeder control valve left of block
front n rear (has to do with hydraulic oil flow for Mivec) tapped with wooden end (old mechanics trick if its stuck recently can sometimes
dislodge it -no improvement at all but would hold idle at around
500 rpm only, drove 15kms back home only symptoms was slight jerking off decell
Dropped that oil and filter with new Surprised that new oil put in after
30kms of freeway driving the day before came out black pretty unusual
to say the least
took for test drive around 5kms slight jerking off decell but was allot
smoother than day previous when fresh lot was put in
Day 3: wouldn't start in the morning and sounded like a rotary engine
killed engine and left parked up
PN: I'd found workshop manuals on line for 4B12 engine and a diagnostics and servicing supplements & had been studying the engine,
electrical and diagnostics sections over last 2 nights
PN: that I could not find the EGR valve at all in the location in the
manual the( EGR valve Location= underneath throttle body to the
right late (very frustrating to say the least)
Late afternoon started on the tools under the bonnet
checked: removed and cleaned both intake and exhaust oil feed control
valves
spark plugs- all looked quite normal (spark plug Tips dark n sooky but
nothing out of the ordinary)
removed intake snorkel off throttle body and gave it a good clean with removing it
Maf removed out of air box body engine side and cleaned, (nothing
overly dirty here either) seem much worse and cars still running ok
Now car doesn't even fire up at all very confused at this point indeed
Day 4: Rang mate who had working OBD2 blue tooth diagnostics tool working with mobile phone
run a check of all parameters and nothing no fault codes no errors
so started again on the tools under the bonnet again
Coils n sparks removed individually earth out o the chassis with wire
and cranked each one checking for spark Result all firing and working
fine
tried to kick it over again still not even a hiccup splurt or anything
tried choking the intake snorkel to see if it was starving or Sucking air
and kicked over nothing no change
checked all fuses in engine bay moved horn rely to engine and kicked
over nothing still
removed fuel rail and associated brackets re-plugged in all sensor plugs
removed to get fuel rail and injectors out and checked for blocked
injectors all firing as per normal, reinstalled all back again and tried to
kick over No results still wouldn't fire up
removed intake pipe off throttle body re plugged in MAF and got mate to
kick over to see if throttle butterfly was openings and closing before firing yes it was so kicked it over and still nothing a bit of a mild almost back fire coming out of throttle body
Bit the bullet and removed throttle body check underneath just in case EGR valve has been relocated behind or under throttle body and
nothing present
So inspected throttle body and gave better clean all was in very good
condition and clean re installed back on car intake hose n air box and
filter, gave another diagnostics check again Via OBD2 and nothing to
report no fault codes or errors
tried kicking it over 5 or so times just to see if it would kick over Nothing, nothing at all
So I have checked for all the parameters going by the book,
spark TICK,
fuel TICK
air Tick
+throttle body working
all parameters checked and still a big fat zero
I'll come back and do some editing and add photo's taken and screen
shots from the manual to make it clearer for the technically &
mechanically minded
Thanks MY10VR
PN if you would like to have a chat about EGR issues there is already a
thread on it here so feel free to discuss this or other EGR issues here in

(Pregnant reply) 9 months late. Try changing the ECU.
