Undercar Neons?

Postby Defix9 » Fri Mar 05, 2010 10:42 pm

Hey all, wondering what the rules are for undercar neons are in WA, i keep hearing alot of different things but not sure, ive heard ur alowd them if the tubes cant be seen, im assuming your not aloud them while you are driving but not too sure, and is there a colour restriction?

and what about inside car neons, i dont really care what the rules are for them ill probs do them anyways and are there any other cool places to stick neons besides the front, under the car and i like the idea of just under the seats and just over the top of where the pedels are in the driver and passenger seat, it emmits i nice glow :), but how would u hook it all up, like without it being heaps messy and wires being shown thruout the car, coz i no alot of them come with ciggerette port things.

Thanks :)

Hey Jake,

here ----> http://clubcj.net/viewtopic.php?t=3285

On this thread, is a very cool pdf on all thing cj. There is a good section on light colour resrictions, and basic laws. A good note is the mention on 'attitude' if pulled over by the good boys in blue.

Basically, avoid red if seen from the front, white from the rear. I'd also steer clear of blue exterior lights just to be safe.
For every "Drive Safely" sign, shouldn't there be a "Resume Normal Driving" sign?

Can't have any on while you're driving, no matter the colour.

Safest to just put neon inside the cabin only.

Otherwise the boys in blue will get upset.

In Western Australia having neons under your car IS LEGAL

Proof: http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/mediaFiles/lic_IB-108B.pdf

Having them flash or directly seeing the tube could result in a yellow sticker.

Blue/Red cops aren't very keen on, but are still legal as far as I'm aware, but I cannot confirm that 100%... I know that blue at the front of your car isn't legal though :P

unless they are specifically made as additional brake lights, and or forward lights. ie red to read only and white to front only, unless in the case of reversing.

COOL!, it doesnt say anything about whilest driving, do you think i could use them whilest driving?, blue looks the best in my opinion of neons, so if a cop pulls u over u can say that they are legal

A police officer will not accept your claim of legalality anyways. The will take their interpretation of the law. I find them annoying when a car approaches with them on. Better off just using them when you are parked.

Understand one thing.. even if you try what you will.. showing any red or blue light will land you in the $hit whilst driving...

One of the rules that a local highway copper told me that it is also that the car must not be running while the neons are on.

and yes you can have a red neon at the back of the car and on, as long as it is wired to the brake lights and that it still follows the rules of brake lights, ie position, not too low, not to high etc
