*problem* headlight stalk flicker

Hi guys,

I drove my new 2009 ES at night for the first time last night and the headlights were playing up a bit. As I was indicating sometimes the headlights would dip to the parkers and 'flutter' on and off a little.

The car is pretty new ~35k kms, my guess is that there is an issue with the stalk in the steering wheel like a dodgey electrical connection.

I was wondering if anyone else had experienced the same or had any ideas for a quick fix? (if not back to Mitsu. she goes for a new stalk assembly)

Are you running LED parker/number plate bulbs? Or even the after market LED tail lights? Running multiple LED's in the lancers without resistors can cause this to happen.

If you've only just brought it take it straight back to the dealer

And you say the headlights flicker but the parkers stay on?

Yeah I would check for LEDs. Check your indicators and parkers.

A dealership will probably charge you and arm and a leg for a new stalk. If you can't identify the problem then maybe try an auto electrician.

I will have a look for LED's. I haven't put any in and I'm pretty sure the previous owner didn't. But I will have a look.

The tail/headlights are stock.

Yep was definitely both lights, I think the parking lights were still on. Not 100% on that however. It was only like a second or so.

Try as I might, no amount of jiggling the stalk and so on in the parking lot could make it reproduce the problem.

No LEDs, still can't make it repeat.

Could it be corrosion/dust in the stalk/connections?
