I have stood down the end of the street to check that they don't glare into oncoming drivers, which they do not. The glare is as a result of the photography, much like Nicks did a little too. His are not as bright as mine, and in no way affect and oncoming drivers vision.

I may tweak the current design, but overall I am very happy with them. I would like to thank Adrian for all his time and effort in assisting with his uber soldering skills!

you are overthinking it tryg. point them all in the same direction sure but they sit low enough in the foggy grills that they won't be causing glare to other drivers.

mine are there to be noticed if people can't see the things then what the hell is the point. the way ur saying they are gonna be a dull as dull can get and pointless.

mine wont be dull, yours are very small... the ones I am using will be 10mm and 285,000mcd

I will probably be better off pointing them downwards.

As long as you are happy, go with it.

well not really trig, yours are 40 degree LED's so even tho they are bright your wont get much glare from them. and the brightness of yours trig will look just like there's maybe a bit brighter tho at angles greater then 40. anyway. they will just look like glowing bulbs not putting out any actual light.

Shane's ones are 30 degree, and according to people who have only seen the crap photos they are "glairy" ...

It was just to show how they turned out and was too much effort to go and get the camera out lol

Blakey, you math may be right, but you are definitely wrong about them not being bright outwardly... they cast a torch-like beam... doubt me, come here and look into them.. its blinding.

I received some big 10mm cold white LEDs today. They are somewhat brighter than the brightest 5mm available. The are not luxeon (so lets not start that rubbish).

They are waterproof and have been resisted to allow voltages between 6v and 18v.

I have posed two together in these pics, one a 5mm and its bigger brother 10mm.

The 10mm is 285,000 mcd rated and these images are from a 6v power source. I wanted to show 12v but it terribly overexposed the images.

I only imported 100, but I am poised to get 1000 more, in case others want to use them in their projects. They cost a little more than 5mm type that you would buy from Jaycar or DSE etc .... but to be different I am willing to pay a price.

Here is the comparison on 6v. Sorry about the poor pictures, it is very hard to capture the light crisply.

Although these are good, I am starting to see enclosed units available online that might also integrate well.... decisions, decisions!

they aren't duller cause you are giving them 6V well they are and they aren't.

its the current that is making them duller. not the voltage. they are only duller at 6V cause of the resistors in them are probably made for 14V to supply current of 30mA to the resistor. and they are brighter then the 5mm also because of the sheer size of the 10mm LED's

well, by your notion they should be only twice as bright, but they are more than exponentially brighter.. they each have different resistors... cannot see how that can be comparable..

and whatever, this is just shown for those who may want to try...

If you have all the information we dont Blakey, make something and show us your skill, rather than poo pooing all what we say... honestly all the scientific talk isnt showing us anything tangibly...

Get my point?

i never said cause they are double the size that they will be double the brightness, brightness is determined my material used, size and current going through the diode. yes the 10 are brighter cause of there size but they most likely would be higher current, and or different material.

also if you do supply half the current to a LED its not gonna be half the brightness, they actually drop off brightness very minimal up until about 10mA. after that it gets dull quickly.

also i have made stuff, and it is on my car, and it works fine. for what i made it to do.
