Something I did notice is that the 31mm SMD LED didn't fit properly into the dome light clips. The original halogen bulbs have a tab which fits into the holes on the clips, whereas the LEDs just have the tapering ends.

I had the same problem! I bought some 31mm 6 SMD LEDs off ebay and they didn't fit (as in I could squeeze them in but they gave off little to no light so I don't think they are able to connect properly) so I went this morning to Malz and bought some LEDs (not SMD though) 31mm with similar tabs to the original bulbs, but still they were too big... I have a 2010 lancer so I'm thinking maybe they have made the interior lights 28mm instead?

*sigh* I just want blue light in my car...this is becoming an expensive mod!

why dont you measure the original bulbs?
i just measured mine from an 08 Lancer and the center light is a 31mm bulb.

Don't ask me to explain it but for some reason the ebay set of lights I bought decided to work! Its as if I channelled ClubCJ and the LEDs filled with light! lol... Now to return the other ones and hopefully get a refund :D

Oh and I measured them and the originals are 31mm, it was the ebay ones that were slightly bigger causing me some issues with fitting them.

Mine fit in more or less like Hoges's dome light. That probably means it isn't the proper fit to be honest.
Still waiting for the 8 SMDs for the dome light though. That boot light looks like an interesting idea.

Does the strip come with a connection, or you need to put it together?

Mitch ; Yes It would mate... 28mm - 31mm It fits; requires very delicate process of putting in, but fits... on an ANGLE < --- I can't stress that enough, and it simply not enough to light up your boot; Trust me I know -.-

My advice ? Go LED Strip... simple; easy and still relatively cheap.
