CAUTION: When upgrading Fog-Lights!

Postby Ayrton » Sat Apr 19, 2014 7:11 pm

Hey guys so one of my fogs blew so I went and installed some JDM yellow 3000k bulbs. I previously put in 5500k white bulbs to match my low beams and when I went to pull these bulbs out I noticed they had left a burn mark on the inside of the casing! I dont use them much so I would recommend to you guys not to use high Kelvin bulbs as the casing cannot handle the high temps. Here are some pics of the casings:

looks like they were higher wattage than OEM. Colour Temp shouldn't really matter.
The owners manual specifies the correct bulb list with wattage.

ah kk i was assuming colour temps also increased the amount of power because of the heat they produce..meaning why HID's require ballasts to produce higher Kelvin colours

Hid's need ballists because they dont use a glowing coil like incandecent and halogen globes, the light made by a HID globe is from a arc created between two contact points inside the globe. The ballist is basically a way to turn 12v DC into 20-40,000v AC.

Should only be putting 55w, or maybe 75w maximum (risky) into those.... Wattage is what will cause heat, and then burning.....

Colour temp is only the colour of the lamp - I have 2500K, 55w fogs in mine - not a problem.....
