Wire to the boot?

Hey guys,

I have a power inverter which I rarely use but would like to have it in the boot for whenever I may need it, after discovering not so long ago that the Evo's have the battery in the boot there must be space for a rather large wire to go into the engine.

Does anyone know where this would be or the best way to get a wire to the boot?

Cheeeers :)

Besides the evo chassis and body are completly different to normal lancers I doubt. Your car will have the same thing. you can do it but there won't be a oem spot to do it.

Ahh fair enough, so through the firewall/under the carpet is probably the best way to do it then?

Yea, I would run it along the side, under the door sill trims, as that is where most of the wires run

most space, would be going up the pillars and over the roof. thats the most space. and you can go through the main grommet in the firewall if you can reach it, otherwise, best to drill your own and put in a fireproof grommet.

Running thru the roof lining u just have to be careful not to impede the curtain airbag

Best bet would be to go through the gromet in the front wheel arch and out just by the rear seat.

Yea the way most cables are run for audio amps, like speedie said, I always find it easier trying to use the factory grommets, use a bit of vaso or something else to help get the cable thru the grommet

I've done it a few times with different cars

Cool, thanks guys!

I might have to give it a go when I have spare time one day :) I'll let you know how it goes too

I've got a 2ga wire running from my battery to the boot to run my amp. Next biggest size would be 0ga. It runs neatly down the right hand side under the inner sill trim and emerges from under the rear 1/4 trim/carpet at the back of the cross frame.

in short, it's not hard to do and you can run pretty big cable.

Right where the curtain air bags are?

Yes the Evo and CJ have different floor pans so there probably isn't a 'proper' spot to run power cables to.

If you jack the car up, take the passenger side wheel off, remove the plastic mud/splash cover and you'll see a grommet going into the car, pull the plastic off the side of the floor in the car's cabin and you'll see the other grommet. There is then room in the cable duct along the side of the car for power cable to be run. Much smarter than going up through the roof...

there is space under those airbags you know. just cause they are there doesn't mean you have to avoid them like the plague.

Well you dont exactly try to go near them when there are shorter and better ways to run a power cable...

Also if u have a side impact and the cable is in the way of the airbag, causing it to not work properly, ull have issues then, same reason u can't have full seat covers ( the ones u buy from repco or super cheap)
