Car doesn't start!!!!

Hey guys

Third time already that the car doesn't start. For some reason when I turn the key and all the lights turn on on the dash, suddenly all turn off. Try locking the car with the remote and it doesn't work, all the lights can't be turned on. It's as if all the electricity from the car just left. Usually after leaving the car "dead" for 5 minutes, the electricity just comes back on and all the lights turn on again and the car starts. Don't know what's wrong but anyone have any idea?

Hopefully it isn't some alternator problem because I'm guessing that's going to be pretty expensive isn't it?

that happened to me about a month ago, turned out it was just because the terminals connecting to the battery was dirty and so it wasnt a good connection.

Same thing happened with my sons old Celica last November. Damn thing broke down on me in Ballina. The battery had been flattened while I was driving because the connection from the battery to the alternator (I'm pretty sure that's what it was) had come apart. Nice NRMA man came and worked out the problem. Check the connections from the battery.

This definitely sounds like dirty battery connections.

Remove the terminals and clean the outside of the battery terminals and inside the connectors with a wired brush. Once reconnected spray terminals with a moisture guard spray.

Your battery could be on the way out too.

thanks for the help guys, found out that the battery wasn't connected properly ....... yeah don't know how that happened haha but really appreciate the help!
