As best I can tell the centre piece is part of the overall bumper.... you'd have to check with the electroplaters if they can only perform the work on a portion of the bar. Having said that - a full chrome front would be something else!

SIR-VRX wrote:It does not meet Australian Design Rules if it is mounted to the side, under the headlight. That is why the AUDM Evo X has it in the centre nad the rest of the world has it to the side.

Yes, the previous Evos had it on the side, but they were a different shape which just squeezed in past the rule.

Sucks, but them's the brakes. :)

EDIT: Oh Hoggy, chrome it and mount the number plate in the centre of the lower grille, up high tucked up to the centre section, covering the screw holes from the lower grille. That would look the best imo.

i cant find anywhere that it says its illegal? on the side.
plus i see this on heaps of cars like GTR's, Sylvia's and all types of Evo's driving around..so how is it illegal.it might not meet design standards but people still do it. i think it suits the car 100%.

Lancerlot, I'm not at my of atm but when I get home I'll dig up the legislation as I have it bookmarked.

The reason it is illegal is because it does not meet ADRs and all cars must be ADR compliant at all times to be operated legally and be roadworthy.

I am 99% sure it is NOT illegal to mount the number plate to the side, I believe the ADR ruling states that the plate must be mounted in acceptable view, i have done pink slips on cars with side mounted plates before, also i think you can get out of having a number plate on the front it there is no where acceptable on the front of the car for it to be mounted

OK just to clarify i looked it up, it is illegal to mount it on the side BUT if the Evo X mounts it there from stock you can get the bracket mount it in the same position and say it is an Evo X front bar and thats where it has to be mounted and they cant do anything about it

SIR-VRX my two cents worth -
I like the chrome on the red, my cars the same colour, but don't overdo it mate
At least with the vinyl it's removable without too much trouble
