Sooooo. On my partners 08 ES, he noticed today while going to fill up that his fuel cap won’t open at all while pulling the lever.
After having to leave the servo and come home, we managed to get it open by me holding the lever and him managing to pull the cap open,
Has anyone had this issue at all?

Re: Fuel Cap not opening when pulling lever?
Cable may have stretched a little.Have a look at both ends and make sure the cable retaining brackets haven't bent causing the cable to go slack.

Hyundias have that issue a lot, the pivot point gets dirty and gummed up and need to be cleaned with brake cleaner then lubricated with wd40 or the like.
Also make sure the release spring isn't broken or weak

I'd check the little spring thing that pops it open, maybe its broken?

I would think the cable needs adjusting.
I've never heard of the issue with lancers

OT - why do they still put the boot and fuel openers next to each other?
At least its not as bad as some cars having the pull hand brake and bonnet release in the same spot!

God knows haha!
I will check it out though, thanks for the info, I was reading on an Evo forum when I originally googled it that it was a common problem, although given the fact that the car has 200K on it, might be why it's now having issues haha.

Re: Fuel Cap not opening when pulling lever?
My old 93' Lancer never had this issue, only problem I have some times is the fuel cap becoming hard to unscrew, put some grease on it and it works fine now.
Re: Fuel Cap not opening when pulling lever?
Don't put WD40 on cables that get moved
The WD40 will gum up and go sticky and create more dramas then what you first had.
Silicon spray works well . There is better alternative , but WD 40 is not definately not one of them.
