Rattle

Hey guys,
I have an annoying rattle coming from behind the steering wheel and seems to move across to behind the stereo at different rpm.
At about 1 grand it comes from the wheel and a little above it stops then I hear the same type of rattle coming from behind the stereo. It goes away after about 1.2 grand and is not very noticeable, just very subtle yet enough to piss me off.
Has anyone got any idea what could be causing it?
or anyone else have/had this issue?

Never really noticed anything, but because as soon as I hop into the car, I always set up the ipod with some tunes, and crank up the volume. Have to turn off stereo and drive around one day to see if I have the dreaded "creaking syndrome"

Hrmm I get a vibration from the instrument cluster sometimes during certain rpm's, dunno if it's the same one as your talking about. Most of the times I try to rectify it by either turning on some music or just giving the dashboard a whack. I also find that it's not always there, and therefore only happens when the dash has been exposed to certain conditions etc.
I sent the car into mitsubishi to get it fixed under warrant, but after about a weeks driving it came back and then some new ones appeared as well. The dealer did there best though as they kept the car for a whole week to fix and test.
Think at the end of the day, there's not much a dealer can do about it. If anything, I found that with the dealer taking apart the dash and putting it back together again, it can lead to introdcing more sqeaks and rattles.

^^ yeah your right about the dealer. My brother had a rattle in his dash but after he got it back, the broke one of the clips that held the clock in and it just rattled more. Sometimes you just gotta have an eye for that kinda stuff. Cant expect mitsu to know EVERYTHING when it comes to something as random as a 'rattle'

I like to listen to the engine, waste gate, blow of valve and exhaust. Music to my ears, until this damn rattle. lol
I cant hear it with the stereo above 15.
If its still there in about a week I might have to speak to the service dept.

^^ lol well SOME OF US DONT HAVE WASTE GATES AND BLOW OFF VALVES. It looks like someone has a big head with their turbo. you will loose 1 million points just for that

Just a though aswell. Since it comes on only at a certian amount of revs, maybe the engine is hitting a resonance frequency with something in the dash?
If you dont know what i mean, take my subs for example. When i close the boot, if i play a song that has a tone of 35hz the boot will shake slow, but if i play 25hz it will shake faster.

Does a blow off valve on the ralliart really sound as loud as normal manual cars???? Couldn't really guess what it would sound like? I've heard them on WRXers and Skylines. Would it just work when you change the gears in manual mode, or when you were just driving in "D"??

^^ depends on how much throttle you got on i think. Plus the ECU is probley regulating how much boost you get so its probley more tuned for a sporty daily driver. Thats my only guess though

I can’t help it, I've wanted a 4wd turbo my whole life and I finally have one, so sorry if my head gets a bit humongous. lol
You can hear the waste gate sometimes when you or the SST changes gears and the blow off when you lift off somewhere after 3 grand. It’s very faint but you can still make it out.
If you want it louder like the WRX and skyline you have probably seen, you need to get a few aftermarket parts put on. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I think getting these sort of aftermarket blow off valves can do more harm than good if you haven’t added a bit more boost to cope with the stronger springs in the blow off. I think letting the air out like this can confuse the ECU causing it to think more air has gone into the engine then really has which can’t be good either.
But don’t take my word for it I’m no mechanic. lol
Check out this clip, the guy has an evo X blow off and a cone air filter which makes it a lot louder.

I hear the subtle sound of lifting off after the 3000rpm, but didn't really think it was a blow off valve.....mainly due to it not really sounding like others I have heard (ones that you can hear a mile away b4 you even see the car its in)
Not interested in an after market one....the noise would annoy me after awhile!!

if you want it louder then get a cone air intake..
