You might be better with a decent set of tires.

Well it depends on what you're after.
The MCM guys did say if you're after performance then tires first, suspension then brakes. Otherwise get coilovers and cheap tires.
Can I ask what you should expect to pay for coilovers, I know you can get cheap ones but they are not worth looking at. From someone on a budget what would I expect to pay if I took my car to a workshop and said install some coilovers, I'm going for coffee.

BC are the brands a lot of members here go for. From memory, they cost just over $1,000 brand new. Might be more now considering the weaker AUD. If you're patient and lucky, there are the occasional second hand ones that goes on Gumtree/eBay for roughly $700.
They aren't too difficult to install yourself, provided you have the right tools and knowledge. There's a DIY guide on here somewhere. I was lucky enough to have the help of a local CCJ member. Otherwise, If I were to guess, I would say most workshop would charge around $200-300?
Don't forget after that you'll need to pay for an alignment as well.

Yeah Ive seen that MCM episode, as it turns out I'm getting wheels and tires next year from my parents once i either finish school or start an apprenticeship, i guess as a "welome to the real world" gift. As of now though, Ive seen a few sets of used coilovers go on here for about $500-$600. That would be awesome but I know that its rare lol

As the MCM guys said it wasn't a scientific test and any upgrade will improve the performance of your car. In the end its up to you what you want to do and in what order.
I like the idea of coilovers where you can adjust the height and ride but personally I'd probably just get lower springs and be done with it.
