Can't Shift gear :(

Hey guys
i just had a problem, i turn my car on at train station car park drove it like less than 100m, i stopped i put it on Neutral and shift to gear one ( its Manual) and it won;t go in to any gear and i start to smell very weird smell soo i pushed it on the side of the road turn it off. after 5 minutes i put it on reverse and it just jumped and i could shift normal after that.
im still worried i don;t know what was wrong can any one please tell me what could be the problem?
its Lancer Vr 2009 and i have done 37ks

It won't go into gear at all? And does it smell even when its just sitting there in neutral?

yeah it wouldn't go in any gear and there was some weird smell
turned it off and after 5 minutes it was fine

Umm you can't get it in gear. It smells bad. YEAH there is something wrong. Is it bad. Umm YEAH.
I would ring road side assist. And get them to pick up the car

The failure to change gear sounded like the gear shift cable bracket, under the battery area. I've had that unbolt on me before, thats the ONLY thing thats stopped me from changing gear. Ever. And I was the first CJ in Australia to blow the clutch >.< all it did then was extreme high revving no matter what and wierd smell, no gear change problems.

Ben i turned trhe car off for 5 minutes n turned it on and drove normally and its is still good till now its was 2 days ago
Josh but there was this smell aswell, when i turned it off and turn it on back after 5 minute it was going good
i donno wats going on

I think this is a selector problem. It might have selected 2 gears therefore locking up the gearbox which caused the clutch to slip and burn.
I would definitely get Mitsubishi to check it out and demand the gearbox is removed for inspection and the clutch replaced. This should all be covered under warranty.
