Hello all,
I am looking to purchase a 2nd hand (or 08 stock) VR lancer very soonish
Been reading this site for a while and have all these wonderful ideas on what to do to the car once I grab one. (Currently I have in mind 18" VRX rims or similar, front lips, air filter, interior footwell lights, auto folding mirrors)
Just a quick question.. was it March or May 2008 that the Lancers started to come with more sound insulation?

Hey and welcome!
Do yourself a favour, and grab a VRX to start with, so much extra in terms of features and handling, and not much more money second hand.
Also, it was May 2008 onwards build and the way to pick them is the code K03 stamped on the build plate, hidden behind the doors on the B-Pillar (one of the sides has the build plate, the other is the ADR compliance plate.
Good luck with your future purchase and hope to see you on a meet one day!

Cheers mate. I was looking at purchasing a VRX, yes they are not very far off but there are NONE (yes none within my budget), in brisbane. Lots of VRs at the moment. If I can get a good deal on a VR I don't mind
Not too keen on the MY09 VRXs (2.4L), really just need the 2.0L
But if you do spot a VRX.. be sure to let me know!

Here you go.
Clicky
It's in Calamvale. There is also
this one, but its at a dealership somewhere. Edit: Looks a lot like Zupps Mitsubishi at Mt Gravatt, judging by the photos.

^ Thats a great price!
low kms and all.
the added features of the VRX are well worth it.
i mean, i could not go back to a car without a smartkey now!
its unreal.

Yes the smart key is awesome! My favourite part of my Lancer, after the X-Factor folding mirrors of course
And the VRX has bigger brakes, better suspension tune and the extra-bolstered seats, to hold us in better haha

Haha, cheers mate. I saw those on carsales too but I'm assuming even if I can get them down to the low 20s, that is stretching my budget a bit more than I want. The price difference surprisingly between a 2nd hand VR and VRX is still roughly $3000 (as was the difference brand new). I am quite certain I should be able to grab a VR under $20k, which is more within my budget
As for the 2.4L.. I don't see the need for the extra torque/power and the increase in fuel consumption. A 2.0L is more than enough for my needs.
I was thinking.. would a REVS check work in qld? Should I send the car for my own mechanic's inspection (not including safety cert)? So many questions.. so much work
Edit: Hmm, its called Vcheck in QLD.. only $32 for the premium.

if buying from a private seller, the REVs check (go to QLD Transport with the VIN and about $4.00, don't use the interwebs ones) and take to to a mechanic to get it checked over if you wish.
However, if buying from a reputable dealer such as a major dealership, not a dodgy-brothers outfit, the REVs should already be done (if not, get it done as above) and the mechanical would be done also, and a registered 2nd hand car dealer will by law have to offer some form or warranty, unless the car still has factory warranty, which they all would in this situation anyway.
Also, if the vehicle has been registered to another party (other than a dealership for demo use etc) the 10-year powertrain warranty is not going to be available to you. It is for the original registered owner only.
Edit: Woah! I just looked, and the price has gone up a fair bit since I last did one

Well, today went around to a couple of dealers and somehow managed to get a VR Sportsback manual in white (bah) for $22500. No dealer would even touch $23000 so I'm quite happy with the price. No options though so I'll be spending the money I'm saving on those extras. 05/09 stock as well.

Haha, it is slowly growing on me.
I originally wanted a Grey sedan but they are too popular for me to get it at the price I wanted (or my budget would allow)
