Hey everyone

Just picked up my new 09 Black Lancer Es on friday and found this site whilst doing some internet searching over the weekend. At the moment the car is stock but i am hoping to do a few mods over time as more money becomes available.

I have a stereo in my old car that i am keen to put into the Lancer and was wondering if anyone has any info regarding changing the standard head unit to an aftermarket one. I had a chat to the guys at JB Hifi a few weeks ago and they showed me a dash kit which needs to be installed to put an aftermarket head unit in. If anyone has any info on this it would be great. Also does anyone know what size the speakers are in the front doors cause i have not been able to find the specifications in the owners manual. Thanks and i look forward to the replys.

Ashley

Hi Ashley,

Welcome to the club!!!

As for your stereo, I would suggest getting a wiring kit. That way you dont need to cut into your loom and it comes with a colour guide. The one I used was a metra one.

There is heaps of discussion re the dash kits in the audio section. I have an OEM part from Japan, others use aftermarket. There are heaps of varying qualities depending on brand.

If you have any questions, fire away!!

No worries at all, there is some good info in there which should help you choose what way you want to go with the dash kit.

I think there is also a how to on removing the silver strip to get the stereo out. If you need help with it there are a quite a few of us that have replaced the stock stereo :)

Ok, first things first...

1. Welcome!! Glad you found us!! I'm Adrian!

2. We have a cruise on next Sunday... We'd be wrapped if you could attend, a great bunch of people attending and a great way to run in your new Lancer, on a great cruise around beautiful scenery and fun mountain roads! Details here: http://clubcj.net/viewtopic.php?t=1932

3. With the stereo, there are a few brands of dash kit out there, the best quality one is the OEM one from Japanparts.com however, it is the dearest of course.

And I do recommend a wiring harness, but it is optional of course. Just make it easier.

Also, Since you have an ES, you are missing the audio buttons from the steering wheel. You can buy them through our Chief Buyer, ofey, for about $100. Then with an interface kit ($100) you can use those buttons on an aftermarket headunit. (But they work on the stock unit plug-and play)

Also the speakers are the standard 6" size, and aftermarket tweeters fit nicely in the little spot on the doors too.

Any more questions, just sing out!
