I there's a way to find Engine ID without the ECU ?

I'm in about the same problem. I've blown my 2.0 engine, but want to swap in a 2.4L engine( from a 2010 Lancer GTS). Since the engine does not come with ECU, it probabley mean i'll have to put @ 2.4 ROM in my 2.0 ECU. Can i just take any 2010 lancer GTS, read the ecu, and flash it on my computer, or...
